Pick Lottery Numbers: Facts About State And Multi-State Lotteries

Tags: , , ,

If you like to gamble with low stakes from the convenience store or supermarket, chances are good that you have stopped to pick lottery numbers before going on about your other errands. You may have heard of systems that will teach you how to pick the right numbers so that your chance of winning the next lottery is improved. In a highly controlled lottery such as those overseen by government agencies, the selection of numbers is totally random and cannot be predicted accurately.

In has only been in the last half century that lotteries have been popular. Prior to that, lotteries were not allowed legally in many jurisdictions, including the U. S. In the sixties, state governments recognized that legalizing lotteries could provide a huge source for increasing state revenues. In 1965, New Hampshire approved a state-run lottery, the first in the United States. Twenty years later, the first regional lottery was approved. Currently 42 states have legal state lotteries. Many other countries have national lotteries, but America has no lottery at the highest level.

The most common lottery consists of correctly choosing six numbers from a list of 49 numbers. This makes the odds of winning the largest prize about one chance in 14 million. When there are more numbers to pick from, or numbers are picked from two groups, as with the Power Ball concept, the odds are even larger. The largest lottery jackpot in history was won in 2007 by two individuals in the United States. The amount was nearly $400 million.

Winners can choose to receive either a lump sum or an annuity that is paid out yearly over twenty or more years. The actual amount may also depend upon the size of the jackpot. Some states don’t allow for a lump sum payout.

The actual amount of the winning ticket that is received by the lottery winner will vary according to the revenue collected and the payout style. The tax hit will cause the amount to vary as well. Most winners with a lump sum payout will only collect about one-third of the stated win. Annuities are spread over longer periods, but the taxes still take a sizable chunk of the winnings each year.

State lotteries often have a scratch-off card lottery system that is intended to raise revenues for operation of the state government. The bulk of states joined the approval roll call during the 1960s and 1970s. These scratch off tickets are very popular with those who buy, since those who win know immediately. Prizes for the tickets are much smaller, sometimes just the granting of a free ticket.

Those who pick lottery numbers may not think of it as gambling. It may be a recreational activity. Others just enjoy thinking of what they would do with the tremendous windfall of a huge lottery jackpot win.

How Do I Enter The Green Card Lottery?

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , ,

Each and every year the United States Government will issue green cards through what is known as the Diversity Lottery program or the Green Card Lottery Program. Immigrants that are from an eligible country and their families have a chance of being able to live and work in the US.

Each year an immigrant is allowed to apply for the green card but, even if they are selected as a winner, that does not necessarily mean that you are free and clear to enter the US. There is a catch that you should be aware of.

One of the biggest thing is that the applicants must first pay a $750 to the United States Embassy in the country that they are applying from. You also must pass a variety of different medical exams. The US Government also states that the winner of this lottery must have an advanced level of schooling or have worked in a professional position for at least two years in the last five years.

Along with the overall eligibility you will also need at least a high school diploma or the equivalent of one. You will also need to be sure that you have at least 2 years of work experience or training within the last five years. This should be in the field of interest that you are looking at joining when you enter the US.

On an average there are around 11 million applicants each and every year. If this is the case than your odds are not very high that you may gain citizenship. This actually averages out to be 1 out of every 340 applications.

Once the Government has received all the applications by the deadline, the State Department that is running the lottery will then select only a few hundred thousand winners at random through their computer program. However, there are only a maximum of 50,000 immigrants each year that actually win the green card. The remaining of the applicants will not receive a green card for a variety of different reasons. The reasons include such things as failed health screening or a failed criminal background check. All of these must be completed before you even begin. Also you need to be willing to pay the $750 fee that is required if you win.

These applications are only available in English but there are U.S. Personnel that will assist you with your process. You need to remember that your chances only increase if you actually participate. If you are lucky enough to win you will be granted almost every right as a normal citizen. However, you will not be able to vote.

The green card lottery is a great way for someone to become a US citizen and, as a result, have all the full benefits of any other American citizen. Participating will greatly increase you and your families chances of becoming a citizen. You should really consider participating in the green card lottery today.
